The future lies in cloud computing via fiber

17-01-2012

Cloud computing is a new technology that can be compared to the electricity grid. The electricity grid is used and paid for by everyone who obtains electricity via the grid. This means that the costs can be reduced, because people do not have to lay their own cable to the power plant. It is also a lot simpler. For example, maintenance is organised centrally. The users of cloud computing jointly pay for the infrastructure needed to make the software available from a central point.
It can therefore reasonably be expected that the future lies in cloud computing and the use of software (SaaS - Software as a Service). Users need no knowledge of ICT and will pay substantially less. Less, or even nothing at all, needs to be spent on purchasing servers, installation costs, licenses for operating systems, databases and other applications, and on support, maintenance and problem-solving.
Cloud computing also ensures that the software or databases can be used anywhere at any time (e.g. for working from home). Communication is made by e-mail, SMS, web conferencing, twitter, Facebook or other social media.
The information that is processed or generated is stored on servers of cloud computing service providers such as Google.com or Amazon. These have many thousands of servers at their disposal. If a server fails, another is always available. The network, the infrastructure and the software are therefore always available to users. The response time of the software depends on the user’s internet connection. Consequently, more information and faster information also means that more capacity is needed.
The fiber network of Reggefiber offers that capacity. With fiber, users are assured of a stable network and a reliable provision of services, infrastructure and applications in a cloud environment, now and in the future.
